What Is Starling (A Game Engine)

The Starling Framework allows us to create great special effects: It enables our game to run smoothly at 60 frames per second. Starling is an ActionScript 3 2D framework developed on top of the Stage3D APIs (available on desktop in Flash Player 11 and Adobe AIR 3, and Adobe AIR 3.2 on mobile). Starling is mainly designed for game development, but could be used for many other use cases. Starling makes it possible to write fast GPU-accelerated applications without having to touch the low-level Stage3D APIs.

Platform independent
Write your code once and deploy it — everywhere! As Starling is built on top of Adobe's Flash™ technology, it runs not only in the browser, but on all major mobile platforms out there, including iOS and Android. That simplifies your development, too: debug your game comfortably in the Flash Player, then deploy it on your mobile phone.

Free & Open Source
Starling does not cost a dime. Download and use it right away — no strings attached. And because it is Open Source, you're always in control: step through the code and learn from its internals. Everything is well documented and easy to understand. Drop your in-house engine and focus on your games!

Amazing Performance, familiar API
Starling is a pure ActionScript 3 library that mimics the conventional Flash display list architecture. In contrast to conventional display objects, however, all content is rendered directly by the GPU — providing a rendering performance unlike anything before. This is made possible by Flash's "Stage3D" technology.

Embraced by Adobe™, powered by the Community
Adobe supports the development of Starling and plans to integrate it tightly into its tools. You get the best of both worlds: corporate commitment and a vivid community. Starling's community is praised for its friendliness and is always there for you when you need help — 24/7.

Top 10 Best Apps For Mac Devices

I have been using Macintosh for the past six months now, and I find it much better and consolidated than Windows, but also somewhat difficult to use. But I am really happy with the applications that the developers have made for Macintosh, which are still not available for PC.

In this article, I will list 12 of the best applications for the Macintosh devices, which I find the most useful.

1. Airmail

The Mail application that ships with Mac OS is good, but I find Airmail better, mostly because of its clean interface. With almost everything customizable, the app is great for working with and managing multiple email accounts.

LINK: Airmail

2. Readkit

This is the application I can’t live without. Being a blogger, I follow many (a few hundred) blogs and keeping up with all of them was much of a struggle on Windows.

There were RSS feeds reader applications on Windows too, but Readkit is quite different. It lets you export articles to Pocket, Instapaper and many other applications too. Readkit seamlessly integrates with Pocket and you can read all your saved articles on Pocket, within Readkit itself. It also plays well with Feedly and you can follow any number of blogs from one place.

LINK: Readkit

3. AntiRSI

If you work on the system for long hours, AntiRSI is a must have app for you. According to doctors, you must take regular breaks after every 20 minutes or so while sitting in front of the system. AntiRSI blocks the input devices after every 15 minutes (customizable) for 20 seconds (customizable). During this time, you can look away from the screen and save your eyes from the negative effects of using computer devices for long durations.

LINK: AntiRSI

4. Google Chrome

Available for almost every platform, Google Chrome is the browser of my choice. The stock browser, Apple Safari, is good if you want to use the same on all your devices (provided an app for them exists), or you don’t want cross-synching of your bookmarks, passwords and the sites you visit. Since I use many devices for surfing the web, I love the Chrome’s sync functionality.

LINK: Google Chrome

5. VLC

Like Chrome, VLC is also available for the Macintosh operating system. I have nothing against QuickTime, but its limited support for different formats make me choose VLC over it. Moreover, VLC can download subtitles too.

LINK: VLC

6. iA Writer

If you are a blogger, an author or anyone who has to or loves to write, then you will love iA Writer for sure. Available in the ‘App Store’ for free, the application supports markdown language and all the HTML tags. You can see a live preview as you type and you can also export all your writings in HTML (.html), Rich Text Format (.rtf) or Microsoft Word (.docx) format.

iA writer also has a focus mode, that highlights the line you are currently editing, and lightens all others. This saves you from searching for the line you were currently editing, at times when you take your eyes off the screen.

LINK: iA Writer

7. Lightshot Screenshot

It is the lightest screen capturing application on Mac OS. Very simple and with not too many options, the application is perfect for taking screenshots of anything on your computer screen.

NOTE : This app is not for taking professional screenshots. It is the most basic app that just takes the screenshot of your Macintosh device’s screen.

LINK: Lightshot Screenshot

8. Alfred

You will find Spotlight to be great if you compare it with Windows search, but Alfred takes search to a whole new level. You will gradually know how Alfred is different and powerful than Spotlight when you start using it.

LINK: Alfred

9. Simplenote

The native ‘Notes’ application is great if you work entirely on Macintosh or iOS devices, because the application is available only on Apple powered operating systems. If you want a note taking application that can work on more platforms (including Android), try Simplenote. Simplenote is available for Mac, iOS, Android and on the web. You can even use it on a Windows machine with Pokki.

Simplenote is a great note taking application with a powerful search. You can search for any word/phrase with in your notes to find that note. Moreover, you can also tag your notes to organise them in a better way.

LINK: Simplenote

10. Pocket

Pocket is a free application that can download webpages on your Macintosh device and saves them for offline reading. It also removes the formatting of the web pages and displays them in a very easy to read format. The app is available for all the major platforms except windows, a Chrome app can be used though.

Drawbacks Of Saving Files On Desktop

Most people, even me, save files on the desktop, mostly the important once. But saving files on your desktop has four major drawbacks, both on Windows and Macintosh.

1. Files On The Desktop Are Not Backed Up By Default

If you use System Restore or any third-party application to backup your data, then the files on your desktop are not backed up by default, unlike your libraries (you can change it though).

If you still want to include your desktop files in the System Restore backup, then you can read the steps below. For other third-party apps, you can change this setting somewhere in their options menu.

Open Explorer (double click Computer icon on your desktop).
From the left pane, right-click on Libraries > documents and select Properties
In the windows that pops-up, select Include a folder… and select Desktop.

Click the “Include Folder” button and then click on Apply.

2. They Are Behind Several Windows
Files or documents on the desktop are not easily accessible as you might expect. They are hidden behind many windows that you open from time to time. You can obviously get to your desktop icons with a single click, but then why not put them to a folder on your hard drive.

3.Desktop Icons Can Become Unmanageable
Having lots of icons on your desktop can become unmanageable, because there is not much you can do to sort them. Arranging them in different folders in one of your hard drive can help you manage all the data, not to mention the safety. Also, you can place a shortcut on the desktop to the folder containing all your files and folders (those you would otherwise place on your desktop).

4. Having Much Data On Desktop Can Make Your Macintosh Machine Slow
According to a discussion at Mac World, people have reported about their Macintosh machines slowing down because of lots of file at their desktop, and their system started functioning normally once they removed those files. This is another reason for not storing the data files at your desktop.

How To Delete All Your Tweets

Almost all of us use Twitter, for sharing our life experiences and thoughts. But what if you want to start afresh and delete all the Tweets you have shared in the past?
Doing this manually will be very difficult and time-consuming. But with free services like TweetDelete, it becomes just a matter of seconds.

Now you need to authorise the TweetDelete application which will enable the app to delete the tweets on your behalf.

Once authorised, the website will ask you the time, all the tweets posted before which will be deleted permanently.

Once chosen, click the “Activate TweetDelete” button, and your tweets before the time you select will be deleted.

The process can not be undone, make sure you have a copy of your tweets in case you want to go through them after deletion.

Top 10 Tips For Improving Gmail Search

Here Are Top 10 Tips For Improving Gmail Search

1. Find Emails With The Sender’s Name
You can find emails from a particular person using the from: operator. Just add from: in front of the person’s name, like from: Danial, which will return all the emails sent by Danial.
from: Danial

You can also use the email address in place of the name of the sender. It will display results only from the exact email address (more precise).
from: Softrickx@gmail.com

2. Filter Emails By Date

If you know the date of the email you are looking for, then you can filter out the emails by date using the after and before keywords.

before: 2014/04/16

Searching with the above phrase will give you all the emails that were received before April 16, 2014. You can also use both after and before operators together to get the emails between a specified time period, as in the example below.

after: 2014/04/16 before: 2014/04/24

Filter Gmail Emails Before After

3. Searching The Emails Containing The Exact Term
Adding a plus (+) sign before a string will show the emails containing the exact term. Like searching for +force will give the results that have force in them and not forces or forcing.

4. Finding Email Messages By Size In Gmail
If you are unfortunately nearing the Gmail account limit of 15 GB, then try deleting some emails with larger size (with big attachments). But doing that can be very difficult if you receive tons of emails. This is where the larger: operator comes into play. Just perform a search in Gmail like larger:30M which will return only the emails that are greater than 30 MB.

larger: 30M

Similarly, you can also use smaller to find messages that are smaller than a certain size.
smaller: 2M

5. Get Only The Emails That Have Attachments
If you are looking for an email that you remember has an attachment, then try searching for has:attachment to get only the emails with attachments. You can also combine multiple operators together to get more precise results in Gmail.
from: John has:attachment

6. Finding Emails With The Name Of Attachment
If you are searching for an email that had an attachment, and you remember the name of the attachment, then you can search like so.

filename:scienceProject.pdf

If you just know the format of the file, then try typing the extension only.

filename:pdf

7. Get Emails That Have All The Words You Specify
By default, Gmail returns all the messages that match any word you search for. If you want to get emails that have all the words in the search box, then wrap them in round brackets ().
(Google Search)
The above query will return only the emails that have both Google and Search in them.

8. Search For An Exact Phrase In Gmail Emails
If you are looking for an exact phrase in Gmail, then try wrapping the phrase in double quotes(“phrase”) and search that in Gmail.
"Schedule an interview"
The query will give you only the emails that have the exact phrase that you specify.

9. Search Emails Everywhere
When you do a search in Gmail, it searches in all the folders except the trash and the spam folder. If you want to include these folders too, then try adding in:anywhere in your search query.
in:anywhere Searching Everywhere
Similarly, if you want to search in specific Gmail folders, then use the “in” in your query as stated below.

Search in the Inbox – in:inbox
Search in the trash folder – in:trash
Search in the SPAM folder – in:spam

10. Get Only The Starred Messages
If you are looking for a particular message from someone that you know was starred by you, then try adding the is:starred string to your search query.
